Notes: Altered book. This book is a digital facsimile of an original edition of Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie. The artist has replaced each letter of each word with an associated block of colour in accordance with her Graphene-colour Synaesthesia, a condition whereby her perception associates colours with words, letters of the alphabet, numbers, days of the week etc. Medium: Digital print on paper. Penguin 1990 edition. Winner of the 2010 Absa L'Atelier Award. The printed and bound book, which sits on a pedestal, is accompanied by 12 enlarged pages from the book and a collection of struggle song lyrics, also translated into colour.
